About The Event
Só Alegria! is Escola de Capoeira Gent's annual workshop and year-end celebration.
At Só Alegria! we invite our Mestre - Djop Barbosa - along with a special guest, to share their knowledge and experience with ECA Gent and our friends.
This year our special guest is Contra-Mestre Fantasma:
Wellington Santos Ribeiro was born in San Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, on August 13, 1983.
Known in Capoeira circles as Fantasma, he began this art in 1991 in the neighbourhood of Calafate, in the São Pedro São Paulo church. His first teacher was Fábio da Paz, known as Caipora and disciple of Mestre Jogo de Dentro (Jorge Egídio dos Santos) of the Capoeira Group Semente de Jogo de Angola. For ten years he learned the fundamentals of Capoeira's philosophy of art, especially those related to movement, music and ritual.
In 2000, with the relocation of Mestre Jogo de Dentro and the rest of the group to São Paulo, he continued his deepening of the art of Capoeira in Salvador, following the guidance of Mestre Zé do Lenço (José Alves) and integrating into the Association of Capoeira Angola Reliquia Espinho Remoso. In 2005 he received the graduation of Treinel, qualifying him to teach Capoeira classes and in 2010 he received the graduation of Contra-Mestre, by Mestre Zé do Lenço himself.
At present he is based in Porto, Portugal and continues the dissemination of the art of Capoeira Angola, always bearing in mind its importance as a tool for education and social intervention.
